Lesson Sequence
Learn the Game With the First Deal ✥ Lesson 1
This is where it all begins! Meet the tiles, learn the lingo, understand how the game flows, and discover the basics of American Mahjong. We break everything down into easy-to-understand steps so you can relax, ask questions, and enjoy learning something new.
Put the Pieces Together With Winning Hands ✥ Lesson 2
Now the fun really starts! We’ll dive into the NMJL card, help you understand how to choose and build hands, learn the Charleston, use Jokers, and begin making those all-important decisions at the table. This is usually when we start hearing, “Ohhhh…now I get it!”
Independent Practice With Table Talk ✥ Lesson 3
Time to put everything you’ve learned into action! You’ll play real games while we’re nearby to answer questions, offer tips, and help when you get stuck. Think of it as Mahjong with training wheels, until suddenly, you realize you don’t need them anymore.
Once you’ve completed The Mahjong Mingle Method, you’ll have the skills and confidence to join Mahj & Mingle, gather your own group of friends, or simply pull up a chair whenever someone says, “Who wants to play Mahjong?”

Mahj & Mingle Open Play is a relaxed, social two-hour session for players who are comfortable with the basics and ready to enjoy real games with fellow Mahjong lovers. Come by yourself, bring a friend, or gather your whole crew. We’ll have everything ready for you!

What You Need to Play
We will provide a few Mahjong sets, mats, racks, and all the essentials. Let us know if you can bring your sets, mats and racks to share. Be sure to bring your current NMJL card and your love of the game!
A Seat at the Table
Coming alone? No worries! Part of the fun of Mahjong Mingle is meeting new people. We’ll help get everyone settled at a table and ready to Mahj.
Two Hours of Play
Shuffle, Charleston, build those hands, call those tiles, and hopefully shout MAHJONG! There’s plenty of time to squeeze in multiple games.
A Fun, Welcoming Atmosphere
No pressure. Just good games, great conversation, and plenty of laughs around the table.
