Our story

About Mahjong Mingle

Meet Denise and Carrie, the pair who will teach you the game and make you feel welcome while you learn.

Two women smiling at a social gathering inside a rustic wooden building. One woman wears a yellow dress with white embroidery, the other wears a pink and red striped dress with a white cardigan. Both have name tags and are wearing earphones.

How We Got Here

Mahjong Mingle began the way so many great ideas do with friendship, a little curiosity, and a whole lot of fun.

We’re Denise and Carrie. Friends, former teachers, lifelong learners, and now slightly Mahjong-obsessed. Once Mahjong found its way into our lives, we quickly discovered that we loved more than just the game. We loved what happened around the table, the conversation, the laughter, the friendships, and the way a simple game could bring people together.

And being teachers at heart, it wasn’t long before we wanted to start sharing it.

We know learning Mahjong can feel intimidating. There are tiles, rules, a card that looks like another language, and somehow everyone else at the table seems to know exactly what they’re doing! That’s why we created Mahjong Mingle.

We teach the way we believe learning should feel: patient, encouraging, social, and fun. There’s no pressure to “get it” right away, no worrying that you’re holding up the table, and absolutely no eye-rolling allowed. Ask the question again. We really don’t mind.

Because while we love teaching people how to play Mahjong, the game is only part of what Mahjong Mingle is about.

It’s about gathering around a table. Meeting new people. Laughing with old friends. Trying something new. And finding a place where you feel comfortable pulling up a chair.

Learn the game. Love the gathering.
That’s Mahjong Mingle.

Meet Your Hosts

We started Mahjong Mingle because learning the game should feel fun, clear, and social.

Denise is the warm welcome at the table. She’s he person who makes you feel comfortable from the moment you sit down.

She has a way of breaking Mahjong into simple, manageable pieces. She’ll remember your name, happily answer your questions, and make sure no one ever feels like they’re the only one who hasn’t quite figured it out yet.

For Denise, Mahjong is about so much more than the tiles. She loves the conversations between hands, the laughter around the table, and the friendships that begin along the way. Nothing makes her happier than hearing a brand-new player call “Mahjong!” for the very first time.

Carrie

Carrie is creative, strategic, and incredibly patient.

She has a gift for making Mahjong make sense. If a hand, a rule, or the card feels confusing, Carrie will find another way to explain it until it clicks. She thinks ahead and creates a natural path for learning. First you learn it, then you try it, and before you know it, you’re actually playing.

At the table, Carrie gives you the time and space to figure things out for yourself, while always being right there when you need a little help. Her favorite part is seeing that moment when it all finally clicks.
